Hi guys!
Today I wanted to show you some macarons I made last night. Now this is a recipe I've been trying to get right for absolutely ages - there is always something I do wrong. This time, yes I got something wrong, which I'll mention later on in the post, but on the whole, they turned out like perfectly acceptable macarons! So if you'd like to make them follow this recipe by David Lebovitz.
First of all a photo of my batter (sorry it wouldn't rotate).
You should whip your eggs only until they start to form peaks. This is a mistake I kept making - I didn't follow the recipe properly but last night I beat the eggs until they became almost like meringue but they were still a little bit gloopy. I also had to use caster sugar as we were out of granulated, but I think this might have actually been a good thing as the egg whites became all shiny and smooth.
Okay, now I'm going to tell you my big mistake. I started piping the macarons and as I got to the very last one, I looked over and realised I'd left about 1/5 of the powder mixture in the other bowl! DUH! So yes, make sure you add all of the mixture unlike me.
Anyway fast forward about 30 minutes and here is my end result
I also salvaged what I could out of the piping bag and added the rest of the powder mixture as I didn't want to waste it. It's erm... interesting.
So those are my macarons! Next time I am going to hopefully do EVERYTHING right.
These are some pictures of an attempt I made last year where they came out almost perfect. Ever since then I've been trying to recreate them and failed.
As you can see I'm trying to find something useful to do in my agonising wait for A level results... and yeah I'm not succeeding in finding much to do. But hopefully these macarons will make me feel better today!
x
